Services That Keep the Floor Swinging

American Rhythm Folk Ensemble LLC offers old-time string band performances, community square dances, and hands-on music education. From Provo, Utah to concert halls, schools, and festivals across the country, every program is built around the living tradition of the barn dance.

Concert

Concert Hall Performances

Our concert program is a full evening of old-time string band music performed on the proper stage. We open with driving fiddle tunes that show off the speed and precision of the band, move into lonesome ballads and ragtime numbers in the middle, and close with a set built for a standing ovation. Each concert is sequenced to carry the audience through the moods of the tradition, and we always end by inviting the room to clap and sing along. We bring our own instruments, professional sound, and stage presence shaped by more than two hundred shows.

Concerts are available as full-length performances, festival showcases, or shorter opening sets, and we work with your venue to fit the stage, the room size, and the tone of your event. We are equally at home in a grand hall with perfect acoustics or a cozy community theater, and we adapt our amplification to match the space.

School

School Residencies and Workshops

Our school residencies bring the string band into the classroom for a hands-on encounter with American folk music and dance. Over the course of the program, students learn to recognize the voices of the fiddle, banjo, guitar, and bass, try holding a real bow, and discover the history of square dance as a social tradition that brought communities together.

Workshops are built for a range of ages, from young elementary students to high school music programs. Our teaching artists are patient and practiced at making every student feel able to make music, even in the very first session. We also design the residency to meet the goals of your school, whether that is a one-day assembly, a week of sessions, or a full semester elective.

Dance

Square Dance Calling and Community Dances

At the heart of our work is the community square dance. Our caller leads the entire floor through the figures with a clear, encouraging voice, teaching each move before the music begins so that first-time dancers and veterans move together as one room. We pace the evening so nobody is lost and everybody is included.

We bring the four-piece band, the caller, and all the instructions. The tempo is set to match your crowd, so a family evening, a church gathering, or a town festival each get a dance that suits their energy. We supply guidance on floor size and crowd count so that your hall is set up for success before we even arrive.

Fest

Festival Stage Programming

Festivals trust us to be a dependable, crowd-pleasing part of the line-up. We program sets that fit your schedule, your stage size, and the mood of your festival, whether that is an upbeat mid-afternoon showcase or a late-evening dance set under the lights.

Between sets, we can add free community dance workshops that give festival-goers a chance to learn a simple square dance or a few easy steps. We arrive early, sound great, and treat your stage with respect. Our experience across county fairs, heritage music gatherings, and town celebrations means you can book us with confidence.

Recording and Archival Sessions

We capture the real sound of the old-time band in faithful recording sessions, preserving both beloved standards and original compositions with honest, warm tone. Our recording work serves museums and folklore archives that want an authentic document of the tradition, as well as private families and organizations that want the music of their gatherings to last.

Every recording is treated as a document of a living tradition rather than a cold production line. We work with your technicians or our own to capture clean, true sound, and we can deliver finished recordings for archival or promotional use.

Apprentice

Instrument Apprenticeships

For the players of the next generation, we offer guided apprenticeships in fiddle, banjo, guitar, and upright bass. Apprentices sit in with the band, learn to shape a tune with real feeling, and study the calling voice that leads a whole hall. We place as much weight on the listening and the social side of music as on technical skill.

Each apprenticeship is tailored to the level and the goals of the apprentice, blending one-on-one attention with real performing experience. By the end, an apprentice is not just a student but a working musician who has felt the joy of leading a crowd.
